Fish out of Water and Me in the Mall

I am not much of a maller - you know, somebody who likes going to malls, despite the lack of real reason or need to do so, but, for some reason, I just had to go to Greenbelt 5 that weekend, just to satisfy my curiosity and try something new.

So off I went with my hubby with the over-all objective of checking out what's new and purposively try a new resto or cafe. After seeing that there are still a few establishments open, we singled out Fish Out of Water, obviously a seafood resto in the area. Heard that my chef friend was one of the chef-consultants who developed the recipes, my curiosity piqued, we ordered the Vietnamese Tamarind Soup with Ulang, Tilapia with Peppercorn Sauce and Shrimp Tempura with Crabmeat Mac N Cheese.

Our server happily obliged that our soup order be split. We were pleased with the generous amount of the soup which could actually pass for an entree in itself. It was the familiar seafood sinigang you can imagine, with tanglad (lemongrass) and pineapple slices giving it a new twist.

I personally enjoyed the Shrimp Tempura with Crabmeat Mac N Cheese, as it provided a different take to something familiar. It is actually one of their kiddie meal recommendations. The tempura was crisp and fresh, and the pasta was really good - with the crabmeat not having any off-taste and the sauce being more of a rich cream-cheese cum alfredo, rather than the usual yellow processed cheese type a lot of us are familiar with.

The tilapia was served with such a potent peppercorn sauce that worked well with the delicate fish. Served with Taiwan pechay, the only downside was that the fish, although butterflied and deep-fried wasn't crisp, so the bones were such a bother.

Fish Out of Water provides a modern take on seafood favorites and is an addition to the Red crab group of companies.
