Hongkong Fever

Visiting Hongkong is definitely not for the faint hearted. We were all prepared for the shopping, which meant walking forever, and of course, trying various cuisines the city had to offer.

Our very first meal in Hongkong proved to be the best during our stay, Just around the corner from Evergreen hotel where we stayed, our group all had a culinary experience worth remembering. Though we were challenged in communicating with the server on what our orders were, we resorted to "pointing' to the dimsum steamer where all the goodies were set. What resulted was about 15 baskets of assorted goodies which we happily devoured while drinking our favorite sodas.

While there, we also had our fill of fastfood items, McDonalds and KFC at that, plus other cuisines - there was a quaint Indian store right in front of the hotel which served curry and rendang staples, of course. What was also interesting was the store right next to it offering only desserts of iced (ala halohalo) and warm (ala guinataan) fruits and stuffed sticky rice rolls (similar to mochi).

Hongkong food items don't come cheap,as we all could not help convert our food purchases during our stay. I, on the other hand, didn't care and was just too willing to try everything on sight.

While there, we went to the Festival of Lights and The Peak, feeling all "touristy" and cold, but 80 percent of the time, we found ourselves scouting for real deals and more bargains from the outlet stores, the malls and even the street markets. Gosh, I have never walked that much in my life!

  1. You forgot to mention that we ate at Burger King! It also has to be said that an ordinary fast food combo meal of burger, fries, and coke costs Php350.00 when converted... Ehehehehe
